No, the reason it didn’t explode is simply that it didn’t explode even without a fan. There is only one way to achieve positive pressure ventilation: install a blower at a location upwind and far enough away from the production area, use pipes to lead the air to the intake, and then have it exit through the motor’s exhaust. It is essential to ensure the quality of the air coming in, as well as to maintain sufficient pressure in order to prevent explosions; otherwise, it is nothing but self-deception.
As long as the quality of the incoming air is ensured and a positive pressure is maintained at the motor slip rings, this should serve to prevent explosions. Our factory uses this approach with three units, and the results are quite good.
It mainly involves bringing non-flammable gases to the enclosed areas where the motor connections are located; generally, air from instruments is used, while nitrogen is hardly ever used. Positive pressure ventilation is generally used for the motors in large units, while explosion-proof motors are sufficient for small units.
