At present, many research institutions in China are working on the extraction of nickel-molybdenum ores. The atmospheric pressure leaching method developed by the Rare Metals Teaching and Research Section at Central South University has not seen much adoption in terms of factory construction recently, as the cost of raw materials is too high. A few roasting-alkaline leaching plants have been built lately, but these have not managed to solve the problem of low-concentration sulfur dioxide generated during roasting. At present, the Beijing Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy has developed a new fully wet-process for the extraction of nickel and molybdenum; this technology enables the recovery of these metals. The design phase of this process is currently in progress, and its advantages will become apparent in the future.
Ningxiang Wuxin Mining and Metallurgy Technology Co., Ltd. has conducted tests on low-grade nickel-molybdenum ores from Zhangjiajie.
