The Spurs officially announced that team player LaMarcus Aldridge will be absent due to a mild arrhythmia, with no set return date yet. Those involved believe that it is best for Aldridge to avoid playing at the moment, until further tests and examinations are completed. According to injury analyst Jeff Stotts, Aldridge suffers from preexcitation syndrome, and he has undergone treatment for this condition at least twice since his rookie season. Premature ventricular contraction syndrome is a type of arrhythmia that does not cause symptoms on its own; clinical manifestations may occur only when it is associated with other underlying diseases or other types of arrhythmias. Preexcitation is an abnormal phenomenon of atrioventricular conduction, in which impulses travel through an additional pathway, causing premature excitation of part or all of the ventricles; this premature activation of some ventricular muscle is referred to as “preexcitation.” When it occurs alongside supraventricular tachycardia, it is called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Premature ventricular contraction is a less common arrhythmia, and its diagnosis relies primarily on an electrocardiogram. So far this season, Aldridge has played 58 games for the team, averaging 32.6 minutes per game, and scoring 17.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.12 blocks.
