The Spurs officially announced that their interior player LaMarcus Aldridge has been given permission to participate in all basketball-related activities; he can attend the Spurs’ game against the Trail Blazers on March 16 without any restrictions. On March 12, the Spurs officially announced that Aldridge would be absent from games for some time due to a mild arrhythmia, until further tests and examinations are completed. At the time, injury analyst Jeff Stotts said Aldridge suffered from preexcitation syndrome, and he had undergone treatment for this condition at least twice since his rookie season. In April 2007, Ad was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (a preexcitation syndrome associated with cardiac dysfunction). Preexcitation syndrome is a type of arrhythmia that does not cause symptoms on its own; clinical manifestations may arise only when it is combined with other underlying conditions or other types of arrhythmias. Preexcitation is an abnormal phenomenon of atrioventricular conduction, in which impulses travel through an additional pathway, causing premature excitation of part or all of the ventricles; this premature activation of some ventricular muscle is referred to as \"preexcitation.\" When it occurs alongside supraventricular tachycardia, it is called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Preexcitation is a less common arrhythmia, and its diagnosis relies primarily on an electrocardiogram. At that time, Ad underwent surgery to treat atrial fibrillation and missed the remaining 9 games of that season for the Trail Blazers. In December 2011, before the start of the lockout season training camp, Ad experienced similar symptoms once again. He underwent another procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, and 10 days later he appeared in a preseason game for the Trail Blazers. So far this season, Aldridge has played 58 games for the team, averaging 32.6 minutes per game, and scoring 17.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.12 blocks.
