We have the experience of dreaming; dreams are manifestations of our mind, and thus the entire dream represents our mind. The mind is something that can transform, and it is through this ability to transform that dreams come into being. Dreams are what is transformed – they are the result of the mind’s transformations. If we insist on distinguishing between truth and falsehood in this context, then the mind, which has the ability to transform, is real, while the dreams that arise from that transformation are false. Although dreams are imaginary, they can have an effect; there is joy and fear in dreams. For example, water can turn into steam (gaseous state), ice (solid state), and liquid water. Steam can be used to steam buns or power trains; ice serves to freeze things and act as a barrier; water can be used to wash clothes and vegetables. It seems that, through the phenomena of things, we can discover their essence, and this essence can take on many different forms, with each form exhibiting distinct functions. ““The mind” is invisible and intangible, like “vacuum”; “phenomena” are everywhere, like “the wondrously existing.” Vacuum is not truly empty, for it can change; the wondrously existing is not truly present, for it is in a state of constant change. We hope to have sweet dreams; once we understand this principle, we know that first of all we need to have a kind heart, for the manifestation of a pure and original heart is surely a good one – a pure and majestic land. Life is like a dream. Do you know where this dream comes from? Think about the “heart that can dream” and the “dreams that are dreamed,” and try to identify its “ability to change” and “what it changes into.”
