This is a new landscape with no historical heritage. The Twin Pagodas of the Sun and Moon were completed in 2002; they were rebuilt in 2001 on the basis of Buddhist pagodas from the Tang Dynasty. Located in the central area of Guilin, they sit on the city’s central axis on Shanhu Island in Guilin, adjacent to the \"Water and Moon over Xiangshan\" landscape. Xiangshan is the emblem of Guilin, while the twin towers are the symbol of the new Guilin. The Sun Tower, Moon Tower, Puxian Tower on Elephant Mountain, and Shoufo Tower on Tower Mountain complement each other and enhance one another’s beauty, giving rise to the saying of \"the four towers, all equally beautiful.\" The Twin Pagodas of the Sun and Moon are known as the world’s largest copper pagodas, and they represent a popular night-time attraction for tourists in Guilin. Among them, the Nippon Tower is 41 meters tall and has nine floors; its entire exterior is covered in pure copper decorations, requiring 350 tons of copper. There is also an elevator available for visitors to use while touring the tower. All components of the copper tower – such as the tower body, roof tiles, upturned corners, brackets, finials, doors and windows, columns and beams, roof surface, and floor – are entirely decorated with copper murals. The entire copper tower holds three world records: it is the tallest copper tower in the world, the tallest copper structure in the world, and the tallest tower submerged in water. The Moon Tower is 35 meters tall, has seven floors, and is made of colored glass. The carved and painted doors and windows on each floor represent different themes, infused with the traditional Chinese style. It is connected to the Sun Tower through an 18-meter-long aquarium, and its underground chamber features a large mural depicting Ming Dynasty blue-and-white plum vases from Guilin.
