According to High-Speed Rail Network, the preliminary work has begun on the high-speed railway section of the Baotou-Yulin section of the Baotou-Haikou corridor; the pre-feasibility study has been completed, and the feasibility study report is now being prepared. It is understood that the Baotou-Yulin high-speed railway is 294 kilometers long, with a total investment of around 47 billion yuan. Its designed speed is 350 kilometers per hour, and it is expected to be completed and put into use by 2022. By then, the travel time from Baotou to Xi’an is expected to be reduced to about 5 hours. The Baohai Corridor passes through cities such as Baotou, Ordos, Xi’an, Chongqing, Nanning, and Haikou. Once this high-speed railway is completed and put into use, Ordos’ railway hub system will take shape; railways will become an important infrastructure for expanding the urban framework and improving the overall standard of cities, while also providing strong support for boosting regional tourism, coal transportation, as well as employment and entrepreneurship in the modern service sector. The Baohai High-Speed Railway is a major north-south high-speed rail artery that runs through the junction of the central and western regions. It starts in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, passes through Ordos, and then heads south into Shaanxi, going through Yulin, Yan’an, and Tongchuan before reaching the Xi’an hub. After leaving this hub, it crosses the Qinling Mountains and enters Chongqing via Ankang, continuing south to Guiyang (where it shares a station with the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway). From Guiyang North, it proceeds along the Guinan High-Speed Railway to Zhanjiang in Guangdong, crosses the Qiongzhou Strait, and reaches Haikou in Hainan. Previously, on December 21, 2016, the western extension section of the Xi’an-Yan’an-Yulin high-speed rail line on the Baohai Railway began construction. On September 14, 2016, the feasibility study report for the Guinan High-Speed Railway was approved by the **National Development and Reform Commission. On December 29, 2016, a mobilization meeting for the construction of the Guinan High-Speed Railway was held; it is expected to be completed and put into operation by December 2022. The Shaanxi and Chongqing provinces are striving to start construction on the Xi’an–Chongqing section as soon as possible, while the Chongqing–Guiyang section is currently served by the under-construction Yuzhou High-Speed Railway; in the long term, another dedicated passenger line will be built. The section from Nanning to Haikou; the part from Nanning to Beihai is already open to traffic, while the section from Beihai to Haikou will also be planned for construction during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. The entire passenger dedicated line will be completed during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
