On July 13th, Beijing time, the Bundesliga side Cologne officially announced that its striker Modest had transferred to Tianjin Quanjian. According to Germany’s Bild newspaper, Modest will join Quanjian on a loan deal for 2 years, with a loan fee of 6 million euros. After two years, Quanjian will be required to purchase him for 29 million euros, making the total transfer cost 35 million euros. The Cologne club announced this news on its official website, with the following text: Modest has transferred to the Chinese Super League after playing for the club for 2 seasons. Modest has left Cologne and will continue his career at Tianjin Quanjian in the Chinese Super League. Both parties have confirmed this decision; Cologne thanks Modest for his contributions to the team and wishes him all the best for the future. Modest is 29 years old this year. Last season, he played 34 matches for Cologne in the Bundesliga, scoring 25 goals and providing 3 assists, which placed him third on the scoring list behind Obafeemi Martins and Lewandowski. His efforts helped Cologne finish in 5th place in the Bundesliga. Since the start of the summer transfer window, there have been continuous reports regarding Modest’s move to Kejian. But on June 28, Cologne announced that the transfer negotiations with Quan Jian had broken down, and the talks were suspended. According to German media, the previous breakdown in negotiations was due to a failure to reach an agreement on the payment method for the transfer fee. On July 11, Modest submitted an arbitration request to the Cologne Labor Court, and the Cologne club promptly resumed transfer negotiations. Eventually, the two parties reached an agreement for a loan deal that could be converted into a purchase, and Modest officially joined Quanjian.
