Why is it called the Sun Father? In our traditional culture, the sun is a symbol of pure yang, whereas the moon is a symbol of pure yin ； This is why the sun is referred to with a male name. As for why other male titles such as Grandpa Sun or Brother Sun are not used (Grandpa Sun is useful as well, but its frequency of use cannot compare to that of Father Sun), I think it has to do with the connotations of the term \"father\" in our culture. As we all know, the term \"Sun Dad\" is generally used by children; it’s clearly not appropriate to refer to the sun as an \"elder brother\" considering its role among us humans – only titles like \"grandpa\" or \"elder uncle\" are fitting.
