I currently work at a petrochemical design firm in the piping field. I’ve recently received an offer from a design firm that specializes in the pharmaceutical industry. Although the salary isn’t very high, it is slightly better than what I earn now. However, I would have to leave my current city, so I need to consider the costs associated with changing jobs as well as my future career prospects. I’d like to ask everyone: considering the current situation, which has a better future prospect for the piping specialty, petrochemical design institutes or pharmaceutical and chemical engineering design institutes? It seems that piping in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries isn’t as complex as that in the petrochemical industry. Moreover, the technical requirements for piping are not as high as those for process engineering; it’s now very difficult to switch to working in process engineering, so one can only continue working in piping.
