How many of you who are in the marine industry have switched from the design field? Let’s exchange ideas

I currently work in a small petrochemical design firm, focusing on piping design. I have been working there for almost 6 years; my salary hasn’t increased in two years, and this year it was even reduced by 300 yuan. Now that I’ve paid off my mortgage, plus the costs of living, I hardly have any money left each month. I’ve long been thinking about changing jobs, but the city I live in is too small – there’s only one chemical engineering design firm here, and no decent companies either. So I have no choice but to take my family and move to another place. At the moment, I feel that the workload related to piping is heavy and the prospects are bleak. I’m already in my thirties, with no savings, and my experience is limited to piping – I can’t even say I have much experience in this field. It’s difficult to get a job in larger companies, and it’s hard to find stability in smaller ones. It’s also pretty tough to switch to another field right now; after all, I need to support my family, and changing jobs isn’t something to take lightly. It’s a pity that since July, I’ve submitted many resumes in fields such as environmental protection and sales, but most of them went unanswered – not a single response. So far, only one or two companies that hire pipefitters have sent me polite invitations; after checking things out from various angles, I declined them as well. I’m not sure if this was the right decision. So I’d like to ask those among you who are sailors: are there many who have switched careers after having experience in piping or other design work and been successful in doing so? Do most of them end up doing similar jobs or unrelated ones? Should I keep changing jobs and stay in the design industry?
