After the equipment starts operating and enters a stable phase, for auxiliary fields such as instrumentation and electrical systems, the amount of maintenance work is much less compared to the initial commissioning phase. There is a surplus of staff, and it seems that some employees have nothing to do all day long. As a manager, how should one arrange work – by creating tasks where there are none, or by letting employees find their own things to do and things to learn?
If there’s nothing to do, arrange some training activities. Managers should think of various initiatives, such as cross-device maintenance work, obtaining professional certification, or even expanding business operations to include maintenance services in other areas

Once the unit is started up and operating normally, it’s a time when the team members can breathe a sigh of relief. As a manager, one must remain vigilant at this point; although the unit is running, not everyone was familiar with every section, every key instrument, or even the entire process flow beforehand. The crew on duty may feel uncertain when dealing with problems, which could lead to accidents. As a precaution, it is necessary to conduct training on the instrumentation technology of the new equipment at this stage (of course, the old procedures are no longer needed). Technicians and key personnel should explain respectively the control methods for the main instruments, the principles of interlocks, and fault handling. The team members should teach each other in order to become familiar with the locations of the main instruments and the key points regarding maintenance, so that everyone is well-informed and aware of what to do. In this way, managers can sleep soundly at night.

On-site inspections of the equipment are also very important; about two such inspections need to be carried out per day. Additionally, regular maintenance and repairs are necessary, as they represent an important task for ensuring stable operation.
