My brother lives in a small city and owns a small, lightly furnished house – an empty house with no furniture or stove, though it does have natural gas heating. It’s on the first floor. Two months ago, he posted an ad to rent out the house; over those two months, he has received dozens of calls and shown the place to a few people – but so far he hasn’t been able to find a suitable tenant. It’s not surprising that the house can’t be rented out: they don’t rent it out for short-term stays, nor to those who can’t pay the full year’s rent at once; they also don’t rent it to singles or to people who are too old. It seems that there are fewer and fewer people interested in renting it. I’m thinking that since the rent isn’t that high, it’s fine if it doesn’t get rented out. Otherwise, I might just keep some birds or pigeons as pets and feed them on weekends. Ten days ago, there was someone who kept calling frequently, each time saying they wanted to rent for 3 years, wanting to pay the rent in full up front for those 3 years, and always hoping to see the property. A few days ago, when I saw this person, it really surprised me – it was an old acquaintance: 20 years ago, in 1998, I had rented a property from him before. . . I never expected that 20 years later, we would reunite in this cycle. . .
