Why are there so few people taking jump shots when shooting free throws?
For free throws, you can jump. According to the rules of FIBA and the NBA, the player taking the free throw is allowed to jump, but they must not cross or step on the free-throw line upon landing. Additionally, the ball cannot hit outside the ‘small frame’ of the backboard. In all professional competitions, players have high strength in their wrists as well as excellent skills; there is no need to jump, and jumping in place actually affects their accuracy. This has also led to a misconception that “you can’t jump when taking a penalty shot.”
