“The Qixi Festival was first observed in the imperial courts of the Western Han Dynasty, and later spread to the common people. ”Zhao Kuifu said that in the Western Han court, it was not possible to encourage maids to engage in romantic relationships at will; therefore, the original meaning of the Qixi Festival was mainly related to celebrating women’s skillfulness, with them demonstrating their talents in embroidery, sewing, and other crafts on this day.
According to local chronicles from the Daoguang and Xianfeng periods (this area being the birthplace of the legend of the Seven Fairies), on the Qixi Festival people would try to thread needles to demonstrate their skill, observe the colorful clouds, and display fruits and vegetables. It indeed has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day; it is a festival of handicrafts, during which girls pray for themselves to have skillful and dexterous hands.
It should return to its original form; don’t listen to the merchants’ nonsense. . .
