Is the scanning caused by the impeller scraping against the pump casing? Shaft binding is caused by a stuck bearing or impeller
I’ve never heard of the term “scan line” before. Shaft seizure is a common phenomenon; in roller bearings, the inner ring and the shaft bushing experience high-temperature friction due to poor lubrication, which causes them to fuse with the shaft, making it difficult to remove them. Sometimes, the entire shaft has to be replaced. Shaft binding is a relatively serious equipment accident.
Scraping occurs when the motor rotor rubs against the stator coils, damaging them.
Line cleaning should be carried out during major equipment maintenance, before removing the pump, by using steam to purge the medium inside the pump chamber, in order to remove the viscous medium present within the pump. Generally, line cleaning is required for equipment used to transport media such as crude oil, heavy oil, residue, and wax oil.
I agree with what was said on floor 5; I’ve never heard of the issue of cleaning lines in cases of centrifugal pump failures. For our centrifugal pumps used for transporting heavy crude oils, line cleaning is indeed used during maintenance. Since we mainly work with light crude oils, the principle of similar substances mixing well is applied to keep the inside of the equipment as clean as possible. After that, steam and nitrogen are used for purging, followed by pressure release before proceeding with maintenance.
