November 15th is the 48th anniversary of the death of the iron man Wang Jinxi. Let us together commemorate the vanguard fighter of China’s working class, a role model for all, and a national hero of great stature. Let us jointly remember and pay tribute to the Iron Man, Wang Jinxi.
It’s hard to imagine that such a role model of his time had only 300 yuan left before he passed away. In 1970, Wang Jinxi was diagnosed with stomach cancer, and his condition deteriorated rapidly. Before he died, he said to his brother, “There are work shoes in the bathroom; inside them are 300 yuan. I might not be able to see our mother anymore, nor can I do anything for her. Take them back and use the money to buy some milk powder for her.” ” Wang Jinxi dedicated his entire life to the Daqing Oil Field; it was only on his deathbed that he thought of his mother, the woman he had owed something to throughout his life. That last wish was his final act of filial piety toward her.
On April 19, 1960, Team 1205, led by the iron man Wang Jinxi, drilled the first oil well in the Daqing Oil Field, setting a new record in the history of China’s petroleum industry. 60 years have passed, and the output of the Daqing Oil Field has exceeded 5 billion tons. At a price of 5,000 yuan per ton, the economic value generated by the Daqing Oil Field amounts to 25 trillion yuan. As the founder of this oil field, Wang Jinxi also created an economic value of at least 10 billion yuan.
A new well site is located in a high-pressure area, which is very dangerous as blowouts can occur easily. A blowout happened when the drilling rig reached the high-pressure layer. If the gap is not sealed, the consequences will be disastrous. At this critical moment, Wang Jinxi suddenly jumped into the mud. He struggled to move his body, using it to stir up the cement at the bottom of the mud pool and stop the well from gushing. The blowout has finally been brought under control! This is also a miracle in the history of human oilfield exploration; it’s hard to imagine how much courage it must have taken for Wang Jinxi to jump in at that time.
This is one of the most beautiful acts of going against the current from that year! I admire his courage and bravery!
The Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall is located in Heping Village, Chijin Town, Yumen City. Built in 1992, it was designated as a “Patriotism Education Base” by the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and the Yumen Municipal Party Committee in 1994. The memorial hall of the former residence was named by Comrade Gu Jinchi, then Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, and the opening ceremony was presided over by the mayor of Yumen City. It is a **AAAA-rated tourist attraction, a cultural tourism site, a classic red tourism destination, a patriotism education base, and a national defense education base.
On the north side of the exhibition hall is a replica of Wang Jinxi’s former residence. The former residence consisted of three small cottages; its broken doors and windows, dark walls, dusty cooking stoves, a wicker basket worn by the passage of time, as well as the broken tables and chairs with only three legs, and the tattered sheepskin coats… all of these reflected the poor living conditions and tragic fate of Wang Jinxi’s family during that dark era.
In fact, this is also a kind of spirit of the times
I have been to the Iron Man Memorial in Daqing, and it was truly moving.
