I’ve heard that Yunwei plans to use them in its project in Hulunbuir, and 3D is also discussing their use; it seems that some companies are confident in them. However, it is said that Jiehua’s attempt to use BGLs to upgrade Lurgi gasifiers was not successful – so how effective are they actually? The crushed coal slag pressurized gasification furnace developed by Yunnan Jiehua Company is based on technology introduced from the British company ADVANTICA (which has since been transferred to the German company LRS). By using locally mined Xiaolongtan lignite as raw material, and through pilot tests and scale-up experiments, an independent technology with certain intellectual property rights was developed. The industrial facility was completed and put into operation at the end of 2008; it has been in use for over a year now, but it has not yet reached its designed production capacity. It can be said that the technology is still under continuous improvement.

In China, only one company uses the true BGL gasification technology; it is a leading chemical enterprise in Yunnan Province – Hulunbuir Jinxin Chemical Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Yuntianhua Group. The gasification unit at this company utilizes the British BGL gasification technology.
Jiehua has been in operation for over two years now; Jin Xin still claims to be the first one, but Jin Xin is indeed still in its initial stage as a foreign-owned business, while Jiehua has already moved forward
The decommissioned BGL furnace has been in use since 2008, but it has never reached its designed capacity; numerous improvements made have not yielded any significant results. It can be said that it is still in the exploratory phase.
