We need methanol to produce dimethyl ether, but we don’t know what the diameter of the pipeline used for unloading methanol from tank trucks is. We need to determine what diameter pipe should be used at the inlet of our unloading pump – it’s urgent
1. Are tank trucks part of societal transport capacity? Currently, the discharge ports on tank trucks are quite chaotic – there are those with a diameter of DN80, DN65, DN50, and DN40. I’ve even seen a single tank truck with three discharge ports of different sizes. Just go and check the tank trucks you use; it’s sufficient if the pump inlet is smaller than the discharge port of the tank truck, or at least the same size. This is the stupidest solution. 2. The flow rate of conventional truck unloading pumps for automobiles is around 25 m3/h, with a discharge pipe diameter of DN65. These can be calculated and verified. What is the capacity of the automotive tank truck? The unloading flow rate should be <3 m/s (for methanol, different regulations apply regarding this flow rate; refer to the guidelines for anti-static measures in the chemical industry). Additionally, factors such as the unloading time for methanol tank trucks need to be taken into consideration. These are all described in books, and there is also a lot of information on the unloading of chemical liquids available on forums.
Based on the projects I have worked on in the past, the discharge ports on methanol tank trucks are mostly DN80.
Generally, the diameter of the unloading port on tank trucks at the time of manufacture is three inches (DN80); it can be replaced if there are special requirements (ordering can be done according to those requirements). A vehicle generally requires several swiveling heads to facilitate use in different situations.
