At the end of 2015, Mr. Wang from Songyang, Lishui, met a “girl” with the nickname “Qili Xiang” on WeChat, and they began a three-year online relationship through that platform. Since 2016, \"Qili Xiang\" has repeatedly asked Mr. Wang for WeChat red envelopes on the grounds of being injured and hospitalized, her parents falling ill, her brother getting married, and her brother causing an accident that required compensation. Mr. Wang didn’t think much about the requests of this “girlfriend” he had never met before; he fulfilled them all one by one. Over the course of three years, he transferred nearly 500,000 yuan to that person through bank transfers, WeChat red envelopes, and other methods. It was not until Mr. Wang’s family faced financial problems and his wife asked him where the money had gone that he began to get nervous. Reflecting on everything that had happened over those three years, he realized more and more that something was wrong, so he promptly reported the incident to the authorities. In July 2018, “Qilixiang” was arrested. To Mr. Wang’s utter surprise, the person he had been in love with for three years, “Qili Xiang,” turned out to be a man! In the end, \"Qili Xiang\" was sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of 50,000 yuan by the Songyang County Court for fraud.
