According to Sinopec News, on March 18, the country’s first technical specification for the reinforcement and repair of chemical pipelines using carbon fiber composites was officially released. This technical specification was drafted by units such as Shanghai Petrochemical and Harbin Institute of Technology. It sets clear requirements for the material performance criteria, design methods, construction methods, as well as inspection and acceptance procedures for using carbon fiber composite materials to reinforce and repair metal chemical pipelines, and it is of great significance for the healthy development of the carbon fiber reinforcement industry. The technology of using carbon fiber composite materials to repair chemical pipelines offers advantages such as short construction time, ease of operation, and no disruption to the normal operation of pipeline equipment during installation. It also helps to avoid safety hazards and the risk of shutdowns associated with special operations like welding or working with open flames. As this technology gains increasing popularity among chemical manufacturing enterprises, issues such as inconsistent technical standards and uneven construction quality significantly hinder its broader application. Leveraging its extensive experience in the reinforcement and repair of various petrochemical pipeline systems, as well as its long-term collaboration with institutions such as Harbin Institute of Technology on the use of carbon fiber composite materials for reinforcement, Shanghai Petrochemical established a collaborative model that integrates fundamental theoretical research conducted by universities with practical engineering applications in industry, which ultimately led to the formulation of relevant standards.
