I’d like to ask the experts!! How do I draw chemical process flow diagrams? I’m new to this industry; I’ve installed AUTO CAD 2008. My company requires me to create flow diagrams of the processes on site, and I want to use software to do this. I know the layout of some of the equipment and pipelines at the site, but I’m not sure how to represent them using CAD. Could you share your experience?
You, my friend, are so lucky. What you need to do is create a schematic diagram. Just illustrate all the equipment, pipes, and valves present on site in that diagram. If you think your skills are advanced enough, then create a 3D version using a 1:1 scale; I’m sure your boss will be extremely jealous. By then, congratulations – you can become the workshop supervisor.
It depends on what that factory you visited does; you can first take a look at what others have drawn. It’s better to draw based on what others have done, because you can’t keep going to the workshop just to deal with minor details
To create a process flow diagram using CAD, it is first necessary to roughly divide the area occupied by all the equipment on site, as it’s not possible to depict everything clearly on a single diagram. The equipment should be arranged properly within each diagram, while the pipelines need to be drawn in a straight line. Finally, annotations are added, and the diagram is converted into a standard format.
It’s the same as drawing a regular flowchart, only with CAD tools. As long as you study and practice on the computer for a total of 3 days, you’ll be able to do it!
The process schematic does not need to be drawn to scale; it is sufficient to indicate the relevant equipment in the process flow
Find Zhang Lao’s process flow diagram and use it as a guide to draw it in CAD, so as to get familiar with using CAD. CAD is just a tool; before creating the process, first sketch out its outline roughly on paper with a pencil. Once you have an idea of the process in mind, then use CAD to convert it into an electronic version.
First, draw a rough model of the equipment in the order of the process, and then connect the various devices using the simplest and most reasonable single-pipeline system that meets the requirements of the process.
:$ First, find an old flowchart or set of operating procedures, and use them to draw out the general layout of the main control valve. Then go to the site to make any necessary corrections. After that, consult someone with expertise in instrumentation to represent the control wires. If everything is correct, a detailed drawing of the site can be created on a 1:1 scale. :L can be used to create cross-sectional views; if the level is very high, a 3D view is created at a 45-degree angle.
