Our country is short of oil and gas but rich in coal; coal chemical industry will be the main direction for development in the chemical sector. Existing domestic chemical enterprises that previously used oils and gases such as natural gas, light oil, and residue as raw materials are all shifting to coal, while new coal chemical projects are also seeing rapid development. But as of now, some **projects that have been approved over the past few years are stalled due to various factors such as water supply and transportation issues. So what are these constraints, and which ones are more important? I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions.
It is largely constrained by technology, with most of it being foreign technology
Personally, I think more full consideration should be given to environmental protection
Water constraints are significant; most of China’s coal resources are located in water-scarce areas. Implementing coal chemical projects in such areas will have a substantial impact on the local water resources. If coal is transported to the water-rich regions in the south, transportation costs will account for a large portion of the total cost.
In my personal opinion, the slow development of the coal chemical industry in Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia at present is mainly because some investors do not truly intend to develop this industry; they merely want to acquire land for coal mining; There are also some reasons related to water and environmental protection. Regions in the south such as Shanxi and Shandong engage in coal chemical industry activities out of a sense of fad, with a rush to get involved without proper planning.
I think the main constraints are coal and water resources, with coal being the most important of them; without coal, nothing else is possible, while the other factors are secondary
The key is the technical issue! For example, the most critical issues regarding gasification and synthesis catalysts!
The core technologies belong to others; we merely carry out rough processing... to earn some processing fees; what this results in is environmental pollution and resource depletion...
Without a coordinated strategic plan, efforts to attract investment are carried out in isolation; factors such as the environment, water resources, land availability, and capacity demands will all pose constraints
I am not optimistic about such technology; who says China is rich in coal? Like crude oil, coal is also a non-renewable resource (relatively speaking); therefore, rushing to undertake such projects does indeed waste limited financial resources.
The key is money; our project was approved back in 2005, but we can’t proceed due to a lack of funds. Coal, water, land, and environmental protection are not problems
