In 2008, China BlueStar (Group) Corporation and its subsidiary Andesun planned to build a new methionine production facility in China, with operations set to begin in 2011. According to China Blue Star, the new factory is located in the Lingang Industrial Zone in Tianjin. It has a methionine production capacity of 140,000 tons, with a total investment of 3.7 billion yuan; the construction period was from 2008 to 2010 ; In addition, Chongqing Ziguang Tianhua Methionine Co., Ltd. will invest in the construction of a facility within the Zhenjiang Fine Chemicals Park in Chongqing, with an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons of DL-feed-grade methionine. As by-products, 30,000 tons of carbon disulfide, 75,000 tons of anhydrous sodium sulfate, and 10,000 tons of sulfuric acid will be produced. Supporting facilities and utility systems will also be built as part of this project. The project is constructed in two phases: Phase 1 has an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of methionine, while Phase 2 has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of methionine. The first phase of the project is currently under construction, with an estimated total investment of 2 billion yuan. Construction period: 2009–2011.
