What’s your opinion on owners holding supplier meetings to collect sponsorship fees?

Just now, I received a message on WeChat from a client with whom I worked together a long time ago. The message said that the company was holding its 2019 Supplier Conference and that sponsorship fees were required; they also provided a bank account address along with details such as the suggested sponsorship amount range of 3000 to 5000. Is this a sponsorship or not?

This homeowner has such a terrible way of eating! Normally, people just take what they want, but during bidding they demand the lowest price; contractors have to watch what the purchasers think in order to secure the order. Holding supplier meetings is usually a way for businesses to show tolerance and fairness toward their suppliers; how can they even take the costs associated with holding such meetings from the contractors in disguise?
I received a few more duplicate messages today, with exactly the same content.
To be honest, it’s fine if such owners refuse to cooperate. In terms of business results, even without invoices, there’s no need to spend one’s own money; if they don’t provide sponsorship, that owner will definitely lose business (and even with sponsorship, they might not get any more orders)
Real owners will communicate by phone in advance; be careful of scams!
Many companies of this kind require their suppliers to cover the costs of holding annual meetings; they simply don’t want to pay themselves
For bidding, you need to purchase the bid documents; and of course, to attend the event, you have to pay some sponsorship fees as well. There have been quite a few such thuggish property owners emerging in recent years. In comparison, the big three oil companies still have rules.
