When it comes to the chemical industry, people often think of environmental pollution, frequent explosions, and factories located in remote areas. This survey was conducted over a period of 30 days, from March 14, 2019, to April 12, 2019, through WeChat official accounts and websites. A total of 26,080 valid responses were collected via questionnaires. Analyses were carried out on aspects such as industry salary levels, job types, and job satisfaction; the statistical results are for reference only. Length of service: In terms of length of service, those with 5–10 years of experience account for the highest proportion, at 41.81%, followed by those with 10–15 years of experience at 24.79%. It is clear that those with 5–15 years of experience constitute the core workforce in the chemical industry today, as well as the active backbone of users on the internet. 2. In terms of the data structure of employees, it aligns with the layout of the chemical industry; the top three provinces are Shandong at 14.34%, Zhejiang at 8.38%, and Fujian at 7.32%, followed by Jiangsu, Liaoning, Gansu, and others. Shandong is a major province in the heavy chemical industry, home to numerous private oil refining and chemical enterprises. It has a large workforce, and this aligns with the distribution of provinces based on visitor numbers as recorded by the Haichuan Chemical Forum. 3. With the implementation of supply-side structural reforms and industrial upgrading and transformation, private enterprises have gained opportunities for rapid development, and they have now become an important driving force in the industry’s progress. Regarding the source of the questionnaires, private enterprises accounted for the highest proportion at 39.92%, followed by state-owned enterprises at 24.33%, foreign-funded enterprises at 11.29%, and joint-stock enterprises at 9.85%. 4. In terms of educational background, those with a bachelor’s degree account for 43.21%, ranking first. As the industry develops, the requirements for entry-level professionals in the chemical sector continue to rise; therefore, people can choose to pursue further education in order to enhance their competitiveness at the beginning of their careers. It is also important to master professional knowledge and gain practical experience. For technical personnel, a higher educational level is less crucial after working for more than 5 years. 5. In terms of the source of the respondents, engineers accounted for the highest proportion at 25.21%, followed by assistant engineers at 17.77%. Together, engineers and assistant engineers made up 42.98%, which is almost half of the total. Senior technicians represented a scarce group, accounting for 2.43%, while the remaining 14.11% were mostly holders of registered certificates. 6. Since the HaiChuan Chemical Forum originated in the petroleum and chemical industry, most of the questionnaires came from clients in the petroleum and heavy chemical sectors, as well as design institutes; these accounted for over 70% of all questionnaires. Among them, companies in the refining and chemical processing industry made up the largest proportion, at 42.7%, followed by coal chemical enterprises at 15.11%. 7. The average pre-tax monthly salary of 4,500–6,000 yuan ranked first, accounting for 22.74%; a pre-tax salary of 6,000–8,000 yuan came next, accounting for 21.74%. Overall, those with a pre-tax salary in the range of 6,000–10,000 yuan made up 42.98% of all respondents ； The proportion of respondents with pre-tax salaries ranging from 6,000 to 15,000 yuan was 56.86%, accounting for over half and nearly 60% of all those surveyed. Based on these figures, the average pre-tax salary for chemical industry workers during 2018–2019 was 8,762 yuan per month. Together, those who find the situation very poor or unacceptable account for 17.2%. 10. 37.65% of respondents felt that the work pressure was very high; 35.81% said the pressure was high occasionally; 22.05% reported normal pressure levels; and 3.36% felt that the work was easy. It is evident that the work pressure in the chemical industry is quite high, and it’s not easy for those working in this field! 11. Those who work 40–60 hours per week account for 51.4%, while those who work less than 40 hours account for only 10.28%. It is evident that overtime is quite common among chemical industry workers; tasks such as shift work, maintenance, starting up and shutting down processes, and meeting deadlines are all routine occurrences. 12. The best way to achieve a sense of accomplishment is a harmonious family life, accounting for 66.09%. Due to the nature of their work, chemical industry workers often cannot be with their families during holidays, which fills them with guilt, making them place even greater value on a harmonious family life. Professional competence is a aspect that people place great importance on; 60.1% of the members considered professional competence to be the most important, with management skills coming next at 56.61%, while leadership skills ranked last at 44.5%.
