It’s been 19 years now. Under the new policies regarding permits and certifications, is it still necessary to obtain a certification as a registered chemical engineer? I heard that it costs over 200 yuan per month just to have it listed on one’s company’s records

Having a certificate in hand makes it easier to find a job first (as a stepping stone), and it also serves as a demonstration of one’s skills.

It depends on individual circumstances; everything comes with a cost, and obtaining such a certification is no exception. It may take two years in some cases, or three to five years in others. If it isn’t closely related to one’s work, or if one is taking the exam just to have the certificate, then there’s no need for it. As for improving oneself and enriching one’s life, opinions vary; anyway, I haven’t reached that level. If required by the job, one will study these subjects whether they pass the certification exam or not; if it’s not necessary for the job, then few people would be willing to go through again topics like advanced mathematics, mechanics, and physical chemistry – those rather tedious subjects. Of course, top students are an exception.
If you work in this field, having a certificate gives you a significant advantage. Last year, when looking for a job, I saw many companies requiring design professionals to have a certified qualification. Moreover, with stricter oversight of those who use fake licenses, having a legitimate license should give an even greater advantage. At least my company has increased the benefits for those who hold valid licenses: lol
