Our company wants to use sulfuric acid to dry acetylene. How is everyone’s experience with operating it? What aspects need to be taken into consideration, as acetylene is a highly dangerous gas? I would like to ask whether the acetylene pipeline coming out of the sulfuric acid drying tower needs to be lined with fluoroplastic Does a sulfuric acid cooler require Hastelloy? Does anyone have a better alternative material that is cheap and can solve the problem? Does anyone have the operating procedures? Can they be sent over? It doesn’t match PTFE/PE – that’s amazing, after all, acetylene gas contains sulfuric acid. What if there are leaks? Our company is also carrying out construction work; in the future we can exchange information about driving experiences!
We don’t have a liner, but we have installed a sulfuric acid mist filter after the drying tower.
Mengmoke Company has supplied mist removers for removing sulfuric acid mist from acetylene gas to several PVC manufacturers. Since drying is carried out using concentrated sulfuric acid, the gas after drying does not have much corrosive effect on metals.
No lining needed! Dry with 98% concentrated sulfuric acid, keeping the waste sulfuric acid at 94–96%. 316L can be used for plate heat exchanger materials; of course, Hastelloy is the best choice. However, using sulfuric acid for drying is not very good. It is highly recommended to use molecular sieves for drying!
