When 5G becomes the infrastructure for the Internet of Things, it implies the need for millisecond-level response times, as even a loss of network connection can lead to serious disruptive consequences. In recent years, security incidents such as large-scale power outages in Venezuela’s electricity grid and cyberattacks on chlorine plants in Ukraine have served as warnings to related industries. On the other hand, the security situation of industrial Internet in our country is also not optimistic. Last year alone, when the Cybersecurity Administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology commissioned relevant professional institutions to conduct security audits of more than 20 typical industrial enterprises and Industrial Internet platform companies, over 2,000 security threats were identified. Relevant data show that over 50% of industrial control systems in China are currently running with malware, and 100% of them have vulnerabilities. In the 5G era, such a security situation may be just the tip of the iceberg. 5G brings new technologies, new business models, and new application scenarios, and as a result, cybersecurity issues have become increasingly prominent. In addition to the security threats associated with the traditional Internet, there may also be security threats related to the connection of smaller websites. These security threats also affect all 5G users, including information theft, website attacks, and virus spread. Industry experts say that in the 5G era, security for 5G devices, as well as security measures for applications in vertical industries such as the industrial Internet, intelligent connected vehicles, and smart metering systems, will be key areas of focus, with the potential to create new opportunities for industrial development.
