Yao Ming was born on September 12, 1980, in Xuhui District, Shanghai. He participated in the NBA draft in 2002 and was selected first overall by the Rockets, becoming that year’s draft champion. He played in the NBA for 9 seasons before being forced to retire in 2011 due to injuries. In 2016, he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. In 2017, Yao Ming was elected as the president of the Chinese Basketball Association. In June 2019, he became the president of the Asian Basketball Confederation as well as a member of its central committee. Throughout his career, Yao Ming played in 486 NBA games, averaging 32.5 minutes per game, and recorded stats of 19 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.9 blocks. The highest score ever recorded in an NBA game by him was 41 points, the most rebounds 22, the most assists 7, the most blocks 8, and the most steals 4.
The only Asian player to be selected as the NBA’s number one draft pick, the only Asian player to make it into the Hall of Fame – the greatest player in Chinese men’s basketball! ! ! !
Yao Ming’s contribution to advancing the development of basketball in China cannot be underestimated.
