The FIFA Annual Awards ceremony was held in Milan, where the FIFA Player of the Year award (the World Footballer of the Year) was also announced. Barcelona’s star player Messi was named FIFA Player of the Year, defeating Ronaldo and Van Dijk in this competition. Messi has won the FIFA Player of the Year award 5 times, including 4 consecutive wins from 2009 to 2012. This year marks his 6th victory in this category, putting him at the top of the all-time list in terms of the number of awards won. Last season, Messi played 50 matches for Barcelona, scoring an impressive 51 goals and providing 22 assists. In La Liga, Messi scored 36 goals and provided 15 assists in 34 matches, helping Barcelona win its 26th La Liga title. In terms of individual awards, Messi won the UEFA Champions League Top Scorer and the European Top Scorer title last season with 12 and 36 goals respectively, and became the top assister in La Liga with 13 assists.
Our era has no Cruyff or Beckenbauer, nor Matthäus or Maradona; we only have Messi and Ronaldo. Stop saying that those two are the best duo – they truly dominated all the honors of this era, both on an individual and team level. Perhaps De Bruyne and Van Dijk might achieve brief success, but I think the top two players of all time belong to our era, as they influenced an entire generation. I hope the president will win the World Cup again next year, continuing this magnificent chapter of success.

These 11 players are: Allison (Liverpool), Ramos (Real Madrid), De Ligt (Ajax/Juventus), Van Dijk (Liverpool), Marcelo (Real Madrid), De Jong (Ajax/Barcelona), Modric (Real Madrid), Hazard (Chelsea/Real Madrid), Messi (Barcelona), Ronaldo (Juventus), and Mbappé (Paris). In this all-time best team, Messi and Ronaldo are once again included together; four players from Real Madrid are on the list, along with De Ligt and De Jong. FIFA announced the list of 55 candidates for the best team at the beginning of September, and the final annual 11-player squad was selected from this list. Over 23,000 professional players from around the world voted from a list of candidates to select the best 11 players of the year.
