China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom officially announced their 5G plans, and the commercial 5G packages were launched on November 1st. This marks the official entry of our country into the era of 5G commercial use. It is reported that a total of 50 cities were included in the list of the first cities to launch 5G services. And next year, the number of cities where this will be available for commercial use will exceed 340. So what developments will the arrival of 5G bring to the instrumentation industry? Let’s take a look! Sensors: As we all know, the element that is most directly related to the instrumentation industry are sensors. In the 5G era, the implementation of all actions and application scenarios relies on sensors; they have become the fundamental hardware and essential component for enabling connections between various elements. According to industry estimates, by 2019, China’s smart sensor market will reach a scale of 96 billion yuan. In the 5G era, the concern is not a lack of market, but rather the absence of technologies and products that can secure a strong position in that market. Sensor companies that focus on excellence and produce high-quality products will surely have great prospects in the future. Smart meters for electricity, water, and gas play an important role in the management of energy, water, and gas usage within the development of smart cities. For electricity, water, and gas usage, smart meters—smart electricity meters, smart water meters, and smart gas meters—are essential. Nowadays, with the advent of 5G, it is possible to carry out real-time data collection and transmission for these smart meters, as well as remote scheduling and coordinated control, along with high-speed interconnection between various systems, thereby enabling remote meter reading. Beyond the basic application of remote meter reading, more functions can be accomplished through 5G networks. Monitor in real time internal conditions of pipelines such as leaks, water quality, pipe leaks, and air leaks. Precise instrument testing is essential for 5G’s Internet of Things. In terms of network connections, all industries require signal processing, and for establishing these signals, chips and components are indispensable. They must be tested using high-tech precision instruments before they can be mass-produced. Additionally, network connectivity tests also require precision instruments from the communications industry. Everything is interconnected; without any one of these elements, it cannot be called a connected world. Although 5G applications have officially begun in our country, they are not yet fully developed; therefore, the advancement of 5G infrastructure will inevitably lead to an increased demand for measurement instruments. In addition to the three aspects mentioned by Changhui Instrument Network, with the advent of 5G, instruments can be applied in more industries, such as the Internet of Vehicles. Through information sensing devices like radio frequency identification devices, sensors, positioning systems, and laser scanners, vehicles can collect data on their surrounding environment and their own status. Furthermore, in the future, we will be able to leverage 5G, cloud computing technology, and artificial intelligence to enable doctors to use video- and image-based medical diagnosis systems to provide patients with emergency rescue guidance, remote real-time consultations, and even perform remote surgeries. With the advent of 5G, the future of the instrumentation industry will see operations that are simpler and more convenient when meeting user needs; moreover, these instruments will offer more functions, enabling smarter and more interactive use. It is understood that our country has officially begun developing 6G, and it is believed that that will mark the beginning of a new era. Instruments and meters are devices or equipment used to detect, measure, observe, and calculate various physical quantities, material compositions, and physical property parameters. The development of 6G also relies on the help of such instruments and meters, even in future applications.
