The owner of the BGL gasification technology is the British company Advantica; there is no such thing as exclusive domestic ownership of this technology. Briquettes made by gasifying lignite using the BGL gasification technology were used at the German Black Water Pump Plant, and they performed very well from 2001 to 2007. Yuntianhua Hulunbuir’s 500,000-ton synthetic ammonia plant uses BGL gasified lignite briquettes, and the process package has been delivered. In Yunnan Ruiqi’s 200,000-ton methanol project, lignite is not converted into briquettes but is fed directly into the BGL gasifier; this is merely a special application, and operations are currently proceeding smoothly. For lignite, the British company Advantica recommends using briquetted coal instead of coal in its raw form, as gasification using briquetted coal yields very good results. The BGL gasification technology is quite mature; it’s just that it entered the domestic market late, and there are no plants using it in China yet. Many people do not have the opportunity to study it in depth.
