One of the methods for adjusting the flow rate of a dosing metering pump is by controlling the stroke; therefore, knowing how to adjust the stroke is a crucial aspect. The first method involves setting up a bypass circuit in the output pipeline system, then adjusting the bypass valve and controlling the return stroke; this way, it is possible to regulate the output stroke of the system. However, regulating the stroke using this method increases energy loss, which is a major drawback of this approach to stroke control. The second method involves adjusting the stroke by changing the pump’s rotational speed. This method can be applied only when the average stroke of the pump is proportional to its rotational speed; reciprocating pumps possess this characteristic, so it is possible to adjust the stroke in this manner. Additionally, this method of stroke adjustment requires speed control of the equipment or motor. However, at low strokes, the number of strokes becomes too small, resulting in an excessively long discharge time—a situation that is unacceptable for certain chemical reactions. Therefore, great care must be taken when using this method. The third method is a relatively common one; it involves adjusting the stroke length by regulating the stroke of the pump piston (plunger). One of its major advantages is the high precision in dosing, and it can still meet linear requirements even at short strokes, making it a quite effective method.
