China University of Geosciences – why isn’t it simply called “Geoda”? It corresponds exactly to Tianjin University
It’s called “China University of Geosciences”. . . . .
Asymmetric! Lacking the scale to compete with Tianjin University, the University of Geosciences was originally named Xuzhou Mining Institute and focused on coal mining-related fields. It struggled to develop further; after changing its name, the number of applicants increased slightly, but it is still a long way off from being able to compete with 985 and 211 universities.
The old Geology University on our Academy Road – we just call it Geology University. Although the university’s main campus is no longer in Beijing, the name “China University of Geosciences” still remains. Tian Da is a shortened form of a place name, and its origin is different.
