Nine comrades lost their lives; 18 of them were firefighters and 1 was a local guide. At 15:00 on March 30, 2020, a forest fire broke out on Lushan Mountain in Xichang City, posing a direct threat to the safety of Madao Sub-district Office and the urban area of Xichang. Important facilities affected by the fire included a liquefied petroleum gas storage and distribution station (with a stock of about 250 tons), two gas stations, four schools, and Xichang’s largest department store warehouse. As of 0:00 on the 31st, the area affected by the fire was around 1,000 hectares, with the damaged area estimated at around 80 hectares.
