Energy conservation is a requirement imposed on all refineries nowadays, but depending on the capacity of the gas holder, too intense venting can overwhelm it; therefore, it is necessary to contact relevant parties in advance before making any changes to the venting system
At the beginning of operation, the circulation in the three desulfurization towers is stabilized; after startup, the discharge of nitrogen from the desulfurization unit is regulated. Once the enriched gas is produced, it goes directly into the absorption and stabilization system, which ensures that no flaring occurs. However, the desulfurization gases from the coking unit should not be fed into the fuel gas system first, as their nitrogen content is high, to prevent excessive nitrogen from being introduced into the system and causing hazards. We started up our coking unit without using a flare.

The absorption and stabilization pressure should not be set too high; this is beneficial for the integration of the air compressor and helps to reduce flare emissions
The amount of gas that is sent to flaring is determined by the reutilization of compressed gas in the gas tanks and the plant’s overall gas balance capacity; otherwise, it’s the same whether the coking compressor sends gas to the gas tanks or the gas tanks send it to flaring.
If the press stops suddenly, venting is inevitable; Because large amounts of rich gas will break through the water seal of the torch. It is possible to start the system normally without using a flare. First, lower the gas holder to an appropriate level, increase the amount of gas supplied to the steam boiler, and raise the water seal level in the gas holder accordingly ; When the press is started, there is a time lag; it is necessary to ensure that the gas pressure in the system does not drop too low. It should be relatively easy to achieve, as long as the scheduling and coordination are in place and there are no issues with timely communication between the relevant parties.
