The glass rotameter is a type of flow meter that is widely used. It is simple to operate and easy to install, but it is necessary to understand the installation guidelines for glass rotameters when using them. 1. Before installing the flow meter, carefully check whether there is any damage to the sharp edge of the float used for measurement (the reading edge). For flow meters equipped with guide rods, remove the filler material that was used to prevent the float from moving during transportation, and check whether the float can slide freely along the guide rods. The filler is usually made of packing tape, making it very convenient to remove. 2. Install the glass rotameter vertically; it should be placed in a vertical position with proper support, and it must not be subjected to any tension or pressure from the pipes. For newly installed pipelines, the pipes should be flushed thoroughly before installing the flow meter. The fluid under test enters from the lower end of the flow meter and exits from the upper end. Tip: Never hold any flow meter in your hand while using it! 3. The inlet side of the flow meter should have a straight pipe section 5–10 times the nominal diameter. It is recommended to install a bypass pipe next to the flow meter. 4. The fluid to be measured must not contain large particles of dirt, as this can cause the float to get stuck or block the flow meter’s passage; in such cases, a filter needs to be installed upstream of the flow meter. 5. The pressure of the fluid being measured must be stable; unstable fluid pressure can cause fluctuations in the float, preventing accurate measurement. A buffer and a pressure regulator should be installed upstream of the glass rotor flow meter. 6. If there is backflow in the pipeline, to prevent damage to the flow meter, a check valve should be installed downstream of the valve connected to the flow meter. 7. The liquid being measured must not contain bubbles; if bubbles are present, an exhaust port must be installed upstream of the flow meter.
