“The construction plan of the Key Laboratory of Biofuels of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (in preparation) passed expert review

On October 24, 2008, the High Technology Research and Development Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences organized a demonstration meeting for the construction plan of the Key Laboratory of Biofuels of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (in preparation) in Qingdao. Experts from Tsinghua University, Capital Normal University, Marandro University in Sweden, China Renewable Energy Association, Shanghai Institute of Microsystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changchun Institute of Optics and Mechanics, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics formed an expert group. Researcher Gui Wenzhuang from the High Technology Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences served as the leader of the expert group. Leaders of the Institute’s Biology Bureau and High Technology Bureau, Director Wang Lisheng of Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Processes, Director Zheng Yonghong of the Science and Technology Department and relevant scientific researchers appeared * Demonstration meeting. The meeting first listened to the work report of researcher Wang Lisheng, director of the key laboratory. The report focused on the laboratory's positioning, research direction, scientific research tasks, talent team building, scientific research conditions and operation management. Subsequently, Researcher Xu Jian, Researcher Lu Xuefeng, Researcher Xianmo, Researcher Wu Jinhu, and Associate Researcher Liu Tianzhong gave representative academic reports on behalf of the laboratory. After the meeting, the expert group, accompanied by Director Wang Lisheng, came to the newly built campus of the institute and focused on inspecting the laboratory's scientific research buildings, instruments and equipment, supporting facilities and other conditions. The expert group fully affirmed the progress made in the past year since the establishment of the laboratory and unanimously agreed to prepare for the establishment of the "Key Laboratory of Biofuels of the Chinese Academy of Sciences". Experts also put forward pertinent opinions and suggestions on the future development of the laboratory. They believed that the key laboratory, relying on the construction of a new research institute, has huge potential, but it also faces many challenges. Therefore, it should do strategic development research, clarify its own positioning, condense disciplinary priorities, give full play to its comprehensive advantages in the research and utilization of bioenergy, especially biofuels, and produce some new innovative results with significant impact as soon as possible to make greater contributions to the development of the bioenergy industry. The successful convening of the expert demonstration meeting of the key laboratory marked that the construction of the "Key Laboratory of Biofuels of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" based on our institute has entered a new stage. The suggestions of the expert group have important guiding significance and promotion for the future scientific research work of the key laboratory and the entire institute.
