In light of the petroleum spirit and petrochemical traditions, what do we need to do?

I asked the young people around me, and some said that one should stay focused on one’s job, be down-to-earth, carry out daily tasks thoroughly and meticulously, improve one’s own abilities, and contribute their youthful energy to the construction of new facilities.

Some say that it is necessary to help young people gain a deep understanding of the petroleum spirit and the traditions in the petrochemical industry, so that they know how to pass on this spirit and these traditions.

In the new era, it is essential to carry forward the petroleum spirit and uphold the traditions of the petrochemical industry; we must cultivate a pragmatic work style characterized by dedication and progress, as well as maintain an excellent attitude of precision and rigor.

What we need is to truly put the slogans into practice, rather than just staying at the theoretical level

The depth of a culture determines the depth, essence, inheritance, and even the rise and fall of an enterprise. The degree of spiritual richness determines the quality of an individual’s temperament, character, and cultivation. Spirit is a soothing remedy for the psyche of the human mind; it is also the ultimate weapon against confusion, indecision, and difficulties, as well as a lighthouse that brings hope and guides the way forward. Although the spirit is intangible and cannot be seen or touched, it often manifests in specific individuals in another form, appearing around us in our daily lives through subtle and tangible ways that we can see, touch, hear, and learn. This is a tangible manifestation of putting spirit into practice. It’s just that in many cases, this pragmatic spirit is ignored by us, who are driven by the pursuit of fame and fortune and prone to impatience. They turn a scornful back on abstract theories. Which century-old company isn’t characterized by a profound and enduring spirit? That spirit is the intangible and invaluable soul of a company, the foundation upon which it is passed down from generation to generation, as well as an intangible brand rooted in the hearts of its citizens. The spirit of introspection is by no means what many small and medium-sized private enterprises imagine – it’s not something that exists just because it’s printed in beautiful brochures, hung on banners, or written on walls; having such elements does not mean a company possesses such a spirit. Just a delusional nouveau riche.

For spirit to turn into tangible strength, it must arise from the soil of its own enterprise; every company is unique, and imitation is meaningless. This involves ‘summarization’ and ‘distillation’, capabilities that most small and medium-sized innovative enterprises do not possess. Or simply ignore or cut such behavior out, or use borrowed ideas as a facade. Such corporate behaviors are almost exclusively found among the **top 100 companies; to be precise, they occur only in those 100 leading enterprises in the country.

Use one’s eyes to identify advanced role models, use one’s ears to listen to their stories, use one’s mouth to consciously spread their messages, and follow their example in actions to achieve true inheritance.

The petroleum spirit and petrochemical traditions represent the foundation and original aspirations; taking action is what matters most and is the key. As employees, we must focus on putting in real effort, using knowledge to drive action and using action to gain further knowledge, thereby achieving unity of knowledge and action.
