The Hall ion source controllers produced by Kaufman & Robinson, Inc. have successfully replaced those from Veeco Commonwealth, and can be used without any need to modify the computer programs or related settings of the coating machines. The KRi Hall ion source controllers come with an auto controller, a filament controller, and a discharge controller; during operation, there are three modes available: automatic gas adjustment, semi-automatic gas adjustment, and fully manual gas adjustment. In the automatic mode, the controller adjusts the gas flow automatically according to the anode current (Vd) and anode voltage (ID) set by the user, thereby maintaining the ion beam energy required for the process. The auto controller can store four sets of ion parameters, allowing for quick switching between these parameter sets while the ion beam is active, eliminating the need to shut down the beam in order to change parameters and thus ensuring the most stable ion beam performance.

1. Equipment: 1.3-meter coating machine.
2. Substrate: Plastic goggles.
3. Ion source parameters: Vb: 140V (anode voltage of the ion beam), Ib: 2.5A (anode current of the ion beam), O2 gas: 9 sccm (oxygen).
