How are the Magic Ear English online courses? How much per year? Let me tell you

My child is starting first grade in school this September. They attended classes in person for a year before, and since their spoken English was not very good, I decided to enroll them in online tutoring. After trying out several online courses, I chose Magic Ear. The teacher assigned that day had a truly authentic American accent; it was very pleasant to listen to, and the teacher also had extensive teaching experience. They corrected the child’s pronunciation several times and used various interactive methods to engage the child, who really enjoyed it. The after-class exercises* are okay, so I signed up. Now I’ll tell you more about this course. 7 levels, with 96 lessons per level. Ultimately, the level of Cambridge Level 3 KET was achieved. I. The advanced course package consists of a total of 263 class hours, including 200 one-to-four lessons with foreign teachers and a 63-day shadowing training program, for a total cost of 12,999 yuan. The top student course package consists of a total of 438 class hours, including 312 one-to-four lessons with foreign teachers and a 126-day follow-along training program; the total cost is 18,999 yuan. II. Thoughts after one year of attending Magic Ear classes. At first, it seemed very interesting, as there were several children playing games together, and there were many situational dialogues – one child would read a line, another child would read another line; the four children together couldn’t read very many lines, but it was still possible to complete one round of dialogue. The atmosphere seemed great, and I thought it would work; I figured that over time it would have an effect, but that wasn’t the case. Eventually, it felt like I was just playing games every day, without managing to learn what needed to be learned or remember what needed to be remembered. Well, it’s better to have one-on-one sessions. The atmosphere might not be as good, but there’s more time for interaction. In a one-on-one setting, either the foreign teacher talks or the child talks; the teacher doesn’t change throughout the whole lesson. The two teachers I’ve chosen so far are both very responsible (I eliminated quite a few others). The feedback they give isn’t based on templates, and they understand how well the child has grasped the material. If they see that the child has a large vocabulary, they will practice more free-talk topics that aren’t included in the course materials. This is definitely something that comes from the teachers’ own initiative, as it’s not something the platform can require. It mainly depends on the parents to look for it slowly. The biggest advantage of Magic Ear’s online English courses is that the teachers are from North America. They claim that all of Magic Ear’s teachers hold legitimate TEFL/TESOL certifications, which are internationally recognized qualifications for English teachers, and that they have at least 3 years of experience in teaching children. Although it’s not clear whether all of them have over 3 years of teaching experience, they are all foreign teachers from North America, and some parents believe that foreign teachers from North America are better than those from other regions. If advantage is one kind of thing, then yes.
The courses offered by Magic Ears are suitable for younger children; they are highly entertaining, feature cartoon-style pages, and include many motivational elements. With over 200 different types of interactions available, children who perform well in class can earn magic coins, which they can use to purchase various souvenirs from their online store. However, not much is covered in one class, so the progress is slow.

Magic Ear English now offers classes that combine face-to-face lessons with AI-driven courses: 3 main lessons with foreign teachers, 1 review lesson, and 1 phonics lesson. It doesn’t seem very worthwhile; the cost per lesson is 60 yuan, so the value for money isn’t good, and the results aren’t very satisfactory either.
The child’s performance in classes is average; with a one-to-four ratio of students per foreign teacher, the child has difficulty concentrating. The teachers change frequently, and it’s not possible for the child to find a teacher they like. The child lacks a strong motivation to learn, and it seems that a one-to-one teaching approach would be better
We use Akaso; you don’t have to attend every class – you can choose your own teaching materials. If you read RAZ, you can skip all the vocabulary lessons. We are 3 years and 4 months old; we moved from K2 to K3 after completing half of the courses in K2. In K3, there is roughly one class every 7 to 8 lessons. Now moving on to G2; the difficulty is about the same. I start attending classes properly (skipping only the phonics part). The self-created Akaso English version is the simplest; for a more advanced level, you can try the self-created Rainbow English version, and for an even higher level, try **Geography**. The **geography** course we are taking now is more academic in style; it’s not as childish or cute. There are even newer concepts that can be used above that. Teachers have to change them on their own; some teachers only use decorations, and I usually unfollow them – I don’t like such tactics. Some teachers use puppets to attract children; in our family, we prepare a doll that talks back to the teacher’s puppet, and once that starts, things become easier. The two teachers I’ve chosen now are both very responsible (they eliminated countless other candidates). The feedback they give isn’t based on templates; they understand the child’s level of knowledge and, knowing that the child has a large vocabulary, they practice more free-talk exercises with her that aren’t included in the course materials.
