Experience with the use of crude oil desulfurization agents

A few years ago, when I was in charge of technology at the company, I tried crude oil desulfurization agents. On the surface, it seemed to work somewhat: many obvious sulfur crystals could be seen near the drains and gutters from the electrodialysis process. The analysis data on the sulfur content in the crude oil after electrodialysis showed some changes, but they were not significant. There were no notable changes in the sulfur content at various distillation outlets.
What is the reason? I wonder what result the original poster is hoping to achieve?
