May I ask, for generating electricity from one ton of standard coal: the general process is to heat steam to 5.4 megapascals and 480° Celsius to generate power. After power generation, it is superheated steam at 0.97 MPa and 300°. May I ask, under such a process, how many kilowatt-hours of electricity can be generated from one ton of standard coal? It seems that the conversion efficiency of coal-based power generation is around 70%, I’m not sure if that’s correct.
You’re aware of this common knowledge; I’m not sure if it’s accurate, but at any rate the order of magnitude is correct. In our country, 360 grams of standard coal are required to generate one unit of electricity, so you can easily calculate how many units of electricity can be produced from one ton of coal. In countries with more advanced power generation technologies (power plants in Japan, for example, are much more efficient than ours), roughly 300 grams of standard coal are needed to generate one unit of electricity. This shows the difference, and it’s also the reason why our country emphasizes energy conservation and efficiency improvements
The coal consumption varies depending on the power output of the generator set. The larger the unit, the lower the coal consumption. For example, the coal consumption for a 600MW unit is around 260 grams/KW, while that for a 300MW unit is around 330 grams/KW. Two formulas are provided so that one can calculate it themselves. Coal consumption for power generation = ((Calorific value of raw coal fed into the boiler * Amount of coal burned) / 29.308 + Amount of fuel used * 1.4751) / Power generated. Coal consumption for electricity supply = Coal consumption for power generation * (1 – Overall plant electricity loss rate)
It depends on the type of raw material, its quality, the size of the unit, the way in which the unit operates, and the level of management; generally, the coal consumption per unit of electricity produced is around 355 g.

How many kilowatt-hours of electricity can be generated from one ton of standard coal? In the past, 404 grams of standard coal were used to generate one kilowatt-hour of electricity, which meant that one ton of standard coal could produce 2475 kilowatt-hours of electricity. At the advanced level in Europe, about 290 grams of standard coal are required to generate one kilowatt-hour of electricity, allowing one ton of standard coal to produce 23,448 kilowatt-hours of electricity.
