The Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of the Yangtze River was adopted at the 24th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress on December 26, 2020, and came into effect on March 1, 2021. The Yangtze River Protection Law consists of 9 chapters and 96 articles, including General Provisions, Planning and Control, Resource Protection, Water Pollution Prevention and Control, Ecological Environment Restoration, Green Development, Guarantees and Supervision, Legal Responsibilities, and Supplementary Provisions. The law stipulates that for the economic and social development in the Yangtze River basin, it is necessary to give priority to ecology and pursue green development, focusing on comprehensive protection while avoiding large-scale development ； The protection of the Yangtze River should adhere to coordinated planning, scientific planning, innovation-driven development, and systematic governance.
When will the Yellow River Protection Law, Huai River Protection Law, Pearl River Protection Law, and so on be enacted? Let’s protect all the major rivers across our motherland.
