This post was last edited by ali2277 on 2011-8-4 07:31. My certification for pressure vessel design (categories I and II) was valid from 1998 to 2008, and it has now expired. It seems that the company will not renew my certification due to financial difficulties. My technical skills are still intact, but I’m not sure where I could find part-time work.
The licensing rules do not require designs to be certified; design licenses are issued to organizations, and currently only those who handle approvals need to obtain such certifications
Why is the validity period of your certificate 10 years?
The original poster is referring to a design certificate, not an approval certificate; I’ve actually never seen a design certificate before. As far as I remember, no special certificate seems to be required for design work – once the requirements are met, the organization can simply appoint someone for the task
I want to learn about *this area; are there any books on it that you could recommend?
Can we take the exam? I want to take it too; it would help me find a way to make a living.

I’ve never heard of a requirement that design needs to be proven… We can get proof through non-destructive testing (PT.MT.RT.UT.ET.VT.LT)
Do designers also need a certification? Just because it’s appointed by the company is enough, right?
Only the certification for auditing needs to be obtained through an exam; the certification for design is usually assigned internally by the company, and simply an official stamp from the company is sufficient. The original poster has been working for ten years now; they should already have an intermediate professional title. They ought to take the exam to obtain it, and the cost is around 3,000 yuan. Types 1 and 2 are relatively easier to pass the exam for, while Type 3 is very difficult.
I’ve never seen a design certificate; only an approval certificate is required for review. For design work, it’s sufficient for the company to be registered. The company I work for seems to have not been engaged in design work for two years, so in that case, design-related work requires retraining and re-registration.
