For untreated equipment, is it necessary to weld a backing plate first when welding ladders or platforms with roots? If welded directly, will it have an impact on the equipment?
If it is not a high-temperature and high-pressure device, it can be welded to the device’s backing plate; if no backing plate is provided there, one can be welded to the device itself. However, two conditions must be met: 1) The work must be carried out by a construction team and welders who have the qualifications for welding on such devices; 2) The material of the backing plate used for welding must be the same as that of the existing backing plate on the device. For high-temperature and high-pressure equipment, it is advisable to have the equipment manufacturer add welding pads to handle this task.
What does equipment that is not heat-treated mean?
This can be done, but the welder must possess a certification for welding pressure vessels, and the material of the gaskets to be welded must be identical to that of the gaskets themselves.
Ladder pads should be included in the design; it is strictly prohibited to perform welding on heat-treated equipment. If welding is necessary, a feasible construction plan must be developed.

In fact, for non-heat treatment equipment equipped with platform ladders, it is possible for the manufacturer to install shims, but conventionally, these drawings are not provided. If shim diagrams are available, the welding quality performed by the manufacturer tends to be better, as the working conditions are superior to those of teams carrying out installation on-site. Of course, as a designer, I still can’t think of any good ideas :)
During the design phase, the location of ladders, platforms, etc., as well as the welding of gussets should be considered; welding them after heat treatment completes defeats the purpose of that heat treatment. So what I do is unreasonable. Welding is not possible.
