For purchasing flanges and valves, is casting or forging generally required? If no requirement is given, will the supplier make it cast or forged? We used to conduct inspections upon delivery of the goods; it seems we never paid attention to this issue before. How can forged and cast items be distinguished?
For mating flanges, only forged versions are available; as for valves, they are generally produced in bulk or, in the case of large-diameter ones, are cast, which is cheaper, provided that the wall thickness is sufficient to withstand the pressure. For some non-standard applications or those under high pressure, forgings are required.
