Thinking of cooking while stirring the fire, each grain bears traces of the past. I still recall the dreams beneath the rice plants; they quench hunger like the rising sun. Growing rice and millet is one’s life’s task; let others decide on gains and losses. With a heart that embraces the world, what a magnificent Chinese spirit!

I returned home on Saturday afternoon; my daughter was also sad about the passing of Mr. Yuan. Because the text message said she was still in the hospital and her condition wasn’t good. I told her that I hadn’t left yet, that what was posted online wasn’t accurate, and the child also said, “We must save them.” I was sad for a moment once I confirmed the news on TV.
