On June 18 local time, the current United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was officially *selected through a vote to serve a second term as UN Secretary-General from January 2022 to December 2026. On the 18th, Guterres took the oath* and delivered a speech, in which he first reviewed the difficult work carried out by the United Nations during the pandemic, as all countries faced various challenges such as unemployment and poverty. Guterres said that everyone needs to unite their efforts to address common challenges, recover from the impact of the pandemic, rectify the uneven distribution of vaccines, deal with potential conflicts, and foster a more equitable, secure, and sustainable future. Guterres pledged to bring accelerated change to the United Nations during his second term. It is reported that Guterres is the only candidate for Secretary-General of the United Nations this year who has received official recognition from the UN Security Council; he has served as Prime Minister of Portugal and High Commissioner for Refugees at the UN, and has held the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations since January 2017.
